What is a background check?
Employers are taking greater care in selecting employees who can be trusted in a position of responsibility in the company. A background check helps answer the questions that you may not find on a resume or through an interview. We offer several types of investigations and they can look for criminal records, confirm their identity, confirm a good driving record, and answer several other key questions.
When are criminal background checks required?
Criminal background checks are usually completed BEFORE an individual is hired or promoted into a new position that has been designated as security sensitive. Typically, the criminal background check is requested at the point where a finalist for a position is identified. No offer of employment should be made until the results of the background check are completed and reviewed by the hiring official. Many companies make a preemployment background check mandatory in order to reduce the consequences associated with negligent hiring.
Why do a criminal background check?
There are no national standards that require a background check. But, anyone can apply for a job and call themselves an expert in that trade. So, it is imperative that a company thoroughly interview and screen potential employees. This not only includes a skill assessment, but should include criminal background searches as well. It is possible that a company can be held liable for the actions of an employee, especially if you are not diligent in your hiring practices.
Does a background check require any release form from the individual?
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires that a potential employer obtain a signed release from a candidate prior to ordering the preemployment search. When placing your order, you agree that you understand and are adhering to this law. You must retain this release with your permanent records for this candidate. We require that you fax a copy of the signed release to us to insure FCRA compliance. You can access the Release Authorization form here.
How quickly are my results delivered?

These investigations typically take 24-48 hours to complete. If we are required to contact past employers or educational institutions, it may take a day or two longer. Rarely does a full background check take more than a few days to complete.
